Where does the law stand on the legality of training AI models with copyrighted works?
We are in our third year of copyright litigation against AI companies.
Around the world, there are more than 100 copyright lawsuits against AI companies.
Most of them are in the United States, which has 80 copyright lawsuits, as shown below in this U.S. map that I created. You can download a PDF of this map with clickable links to each docket by clicking here.
Despite the high number of lawsuits, we have only 7 decisions related to AI training from lower courts.

The bottom line is that we have 100 copyright lawsuits against AI companies around the world, but the law in these countries is still a bit uncertain.
We can expect more lawsuits will be filed at least in the United States. Stay tuned.
